Lowland forest discovery trail

The lowland forest station developed the first interactive nature trail app for the Leipzig region in 2013.

Children, young people and adults can learn about the lowland forest in detail with a smartphone or tablet. On the circular trail, you can explore audio clips, pictures, videos and animal sounds. The stations can be found using GPS and by answering quiz questions.

The app can be downloaded for free on your own device from Google Play and iTunes, and devices can also be borrowed from the lowland forest station.

There are two paths currently available.

Everything on the lowland forest discovery trail revolves around the Leipzig lowland forest. 14 stations feature information about bodies of water, various animal and plant species and conservation areas, among other things.

Since 2014 there has also been an interactive castle park tour available. At 17 stations, you can learn about the Lützschena castle park and its history. Some of the stations are introduced by Wolf Dietrich Freiherr Speck von Sternburg himself, the current owner and 5th-generation descendent of the founder of the grounds.
