Colditz Castle

In the heart of Saxony on the banks of the Zwickau Mulde river lies Colditz Castle. This white-gabled complex was a major detention centre for high-ranking western Allied officers during the Second World War. Predominately British, Dutch and French military personnel were imprisoned here at Oflag (Officers’ Camp) IV C. The Escape Museum explores the some 300 documented escape attempts, many of which show an unbelievable level of creativity. Visitors can even live like royalty at the European Youth Hostel in the castle.
