Town and local heritage museum, Dommitzsch

In keeping with the tradition of the original museum from 1929, Dommitzsch’s local museum was rebuilt between 1980 and 1985 in the former chemist’s shop in Torgauer Strasse. There was an extensive overhaul and redesign of the content of exhibitions between 1997 and 1999. The half-timbered house, which was probably built in 1716, is one of the oldest buildings in the town of Dommitzsch and is a listed building. Nowadays, it is not only a museum, but is also a conference venue and office for the “Dommitzscher Geschichtsverein” (Dommitzsch’s historical association), which is also responsible for maintaining the museum’s exhibits. At present, the history of the town is very clearly portrayed by means of historical and reconstructed exhibits, photos, illustrations and display boards, which present the local, social, economic and ecological structure and development of the town of Dommitzsch. Selected documents, archives and chronicles from the town’s history form the basis of the exhibitions.
