Bach, Mendelssohn, Goethe or Schiller – the names of countless greats are closely associated with Leipzig. That is why thousands of music enthusiasts travel to the city every year from all over the world, so that they too can walk in the footsteps of famous composers. Concerts performed by the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the St Thomas Boys Choir, as well as international festivals, such as the Bach Festival, really pull in the crowds. But Leipzig has even more to offer: a rich cultural life, exciting museums, getting tropical at Leipzig Zoo, lots of pubs and history at every turn. After all, the city associated with trade fairs is steeped in 1,000 years of history. And much has happened during that time; one only has to think of the Battle of the Nations of 1813 or the Peaceful Revolution in autumn 1989.
